Brian Baxter – Senior Director

Brian BaxterBrian Baxter is the senior member of the firm of Ruddy Tomlins & Baxter.

Brian commenced articles with Bill Tomlins of the then firm of Ruddy Tomlins in 1960. He completed his examinations with the Solicitors Board and was admitted to the legal profession in 1966. He joined in partnership with Reg Ruddy upon Bill Tomlins’ retirement in 1968. The firm became known as Ruddy Tomlins & Baxter and Brian has managed the firm since that time.

As managing partner, Brian steered the firm through the opening of branch offices in Bowen in 1975 and Townsville in 1999. His brothers joined the firm in 1971, 1974 and 1981.

Brian has practiced entirely from offices in Ayr at 126 Young Street.

As a long-time resident and solicitor in the Burdekin, Brian has extensive experience in the sugar industry and has acted in numerous Land Court matters involving valuations and resumptions.

Brian held the position of senior counsellor for the Queensland Law Society for a number of years and was made an honorary member of the Council.

In 2016, Brian completed 50 years of practice as a solicitor and 56 years at the firm which bears his name.

Gardening holds no attraction for him and he has no retirement plans at this time.
